OBJECTIVES:
To provide a recording and filing office for Jefferson County residents to safeguard legal documents.
To funnel information to the public pertaining to legal records.
To assist Supreme and County Courts by handling fees, fines, filing and certifying court records.
Fee Schedule for Court Records
To keep up-to-date real estate records to facilitate transfers of real property in an orderly manner.
To serve the public by providing a full service DMV office for Jefferson County.
To ensure and support the orderly and efficient management of records held by each County department.
TYPES OF SERVICES, ASSISTANCE:
-Recording real estate records, filing law papers and other filings pertinentto real and personal property including map filings.
-Telephone assistance on inquiries regarding filings and general informationon a variety of subjects.
-Notary Public qualifying, certifying and information.
-Assumed names, corporation and partnership agreement filings and information.
-Census record information and assistance.
-Judgment and lien entries.
-Military discharge recordings.
-Passport applications processed.
-Copying and certifying of filed and recorded instruments.
-Acting as agent of New York State motor vehicle functions.
-Collecting fees and fines for Jefferson County, New York State and Towns.
-Retrieving records from the inactive record center, for County personnel and the general public, active,inactive and archival records, destroying obsolete records, microfilming and related records management duties. Our customer base includes the general public, genealogists, attorneys, abstractors, bankers, justices,real estate brokers, and public officials.
