Effective February 1, 2004, all DMV customers will be asked to verify their social security number. This will be done verbally and the process is complete if there is no error message. If an error message occurs, the customer will be asked to present their social security card; so we are advising all customers to avoid unnecessary trips by having their social security cards with them.

Also effective February 1, 2004, is a federal requirement that all minors must personally appear when an application for passport is being processed in their name. Previously, only those over the age of 14 needed to physically appear, as they were actually signing the application. All children must now be physically compared to their passport photos by the acceptance agent.
